Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, San Pedro, CA
Approximately 10 minutes from Long Beach

While you're in town for the AZA Mid-Year Meeting, break away for a visit to Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, just two short bridges away on the Los Angeles side of the harbor. Since 1935, Cabrillo has been THE place to learn about Southern California marine life and is recognized internationally for its education programs that make marine science fun and approachable for all. Admission is free. Aquarium hours are Wednesday-Saturday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Embark on a journey of science learning and fun for everyone as you explore a variety of interactive exhibits in our galleries like Ecosystems featuring live animals in living habitats, including a 188,000-gallon kelp forest tank. Make your visit out-of-this-world by seeing Space Shuttle Endeavour in the Samuel Oschin Pavilion. View the orbiter up close and discover the science behind this amazing vehicle. Complete your all-day science adventure by watching an IMAX film. Our seven-story screen brings to life worlds as small as an atom and as vast as the universe in stunning IMAX with Laser. Los Angeles Zoo, Los Angeles, CA
Approximately 1 hour from Long Beach

Spend a day in Los Angeles exploring the Los Angeles Zoo. The tour will include highlights of the collection with animal feedings and keeper talks and a special private presentation at the Angela Collier World of Birds Theater featuring California Condor, Hope. Lunch will be provided and snacks/light meals on the bus ride to and from the facilities.

Santa Barbara Zoo, Santa Barbara, CA
Approximately 2 hours from Long Beach

The Santa Barbara Zoo is thrilled to welcome attendees of the 2022 AZA Mid-Year Meeting! We hope you will join us for a Post-Conference Tour of our picturesque zoo, nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Highlights of the excursion include behind-the-scenes tours of select animal spaces, animal training demonstrations, team-building challenges, and educational program insights. At feeding time, relax on our iconic hilltop for a complimentary catered lunch with Santa Barbara flair, including local wine, beer, and soft drinks. Come get a taste of life on California’s Central Coast!

The Living Desert, Palm Springs, CA

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, set amidst the oasis of the Southern California desert and surrounded by incredible mountain views, is known for sharing the world’s desert wildlife and wild places. Your pre-conference visit to The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens will feature exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences and open house tours, including the new, four-acre Rhino Savanna – home to black rhinos, springbok, waterbuck, pelicans, and more. Your day will also include an inside look at the 2021 AZA Exhibit Award Significant Achievement winner- Australian Adventures and the opportunity to experience our newest event, Glow in the Park, featuring over 60 traditional Chinese lanterns.
